G57 Ticket in Peru: Quick Guide for Drivers

The G57 fine sneaks up on you: you run a red light, miss a “No Turn” sign, or don’t yield… and suddenly the ticket arrives. First thing you think: now what?

What exactly is a G57?

It’s a serious violation you get when you ignore a traffic sign. This ticket acts as a catch-all for various sign-related offenses that lack a dedicated penalty code. It covers everything from blowing through stop signs and making prohibited turns to disregarding pavement markings or driving against traffic.

How much is the fine?

It’s roughly 8% of the current UIT. In 2025 the UIT is 5,350 soles, so the ticket is about 428 soles. The amount changes every year when they update the UIT.

The good part: pay fast and you save big.

  • Within the first 5 business days after you officially receive the notice → up to 83% off.
  • After those 5 days but before the case is closed → up to 67% discount.
  • Wait longer and you pay full price.

Points on your license

Every G57 adds 20 points to your driving record. Those points last 2 years. Hit 100 points or more in that time and they can suspend or even cancel your license.

How do I check for unpaid tickets?

In Lima just go to the SAT website, put in your DNI, license number or plate and you’ll see everything instantly.

In the provinces most municipalities have their own online system, or you can check on the MTC website.

Check every couple of months, especially if you think you might have messed up recently. That way you can grab the biggest discount if something pops up.

Where and how to pay

In Lima the easiest is online through SAT: log in, confirm the ticket, pay with card.

Or go in person to an SAT office or to banks like BCP, BBVA, Interbank, Scotiabank, BanBif.

Outside Lima it depends on your local municipality — check their website or drop by the traffic police station.

Can I appeal it?

Absolutely, yes. If you’re convinced the fine was handed out by mistake or unfairly, you have every right to appeal and present your side of the story.

Gather whatever proof you can muster — photos, videos, statements from witnesses, or any other evidence that shows the ticket shouldn’t stand. It does involve some paperwork and effort on your part to see it through, but the option is definitely there.

How to avoid getting a G57

Just drive carefully. Signs aren’t there for decoration — they keep everyone from crashing.

Don’t use your phone, keep the car in good shape, rest if you’re tired. One moment of distraction can cost you a lot… and not just money.

The ticket is only a warning. What really matters is getting home safe — you and everyone else on the road.

Conclusion

The best way to handle a G57 is to never get one, but if you do, don't wait. Pay it within those first five days to keep the costs down and your record clean. Stay sharp, respect the signs, and keep your 100 points safe.
