Most drivers in Peru know all about fines for speeding or jumping a red light, but a lot of people don’t realise that where you stop or park is just as important. A badly parked car can block drivers’ view, hold up traffic, or even put pedestrians at risk — and that’s precisely why the G47 violation exists.

But the rules don’t care about your intentions at all — they only look at where your car is actually parked.

In crowded places like Lima, where scoring a legitimate parking spot feels like hitting the jackpot, G47 tickets get issued all over the place. The traffic police there aren’t known for letting things slide, so if you risk a dodgy spot, you’re pretty much guaranteeing yourself a fine.

What is a G47 fine?

You’ll get slapped with a G47 fine if you stop or park in any spot the law flat-out prohibits. That covers sidewalks, bike lanes, crosswalks, intersections, building or garage entrances, and reserved spaces for emergency vehicles or people with disabilities.

It also applies if your car blocks someone’s driveway or creates any kind of obstruction — even if you were only there for a minute and there wasn’t an obvious sign around.

Authorities judge by the situation. If your vehicle forces others to step into the street, reduces visibility, or disrupts normal traffic flow, it meets the criteria for a G47 violation.

How serious is it?

According to the Reglamento Nacional de Tránsito, a G47 is classified as a serious violation — an infracción grave. It’s not the most severe category out there, but it’s definitely not a minor one either. That classification determines both the fine amount and the points added to your driving record.

How much does a G47 fine cost?

The cost is 8% of the UIT (Tax Unit). For 2025, the UIT is set at 5,350 soles, which makes the standard G47 fine about 428 soles — similar to other serious violations like G57.

You can reduce the amount if you pay quickly:

Within the first five business days after the official notice → up to 83% discount.
Before the case closes → around 67% discount.
After that period, the full amount applies.

Points and long‑term effects

Every G47 fine adds 20 points to your driving record. Those points remain on your record for 24 months. If you accumulate 100 points within that period, your licence can be suspended — or even cancelled completely.

That’s why one G47 may feel minor, but several small mistakes add up — and can eventually cost you your license.

How and where to pay

If you live in Lima, payments go through the SAT (Servicio de Administración Tributaria) system. You can look up and pay fines online using your DNI or license plate. You can pay at SAT offices or at most banks (BCP, BBVA, and the rest). Outside Lima, though, every town has its own system. Usually, you can pay the fine online or in person at the traffic office — just make sure to double-check the exact details with the local authorities first, so you don’t end up with late fees or any mix-ups.

How to appeal a G47 fine

Believe the fine was a mistake? You can appeal it. A strong appeal usually includes photos of where you parked, proof of missing or unclear signage, or evidence of administrative error.

While the process may take some time, if your case is solid, it’s worth pursuing — especially if the ticket was incorrectly issued.

How to avoid getting one

Don't just park and dash. Do a quick once-over for markings and signs before you lock up. If you have to "eyeball" the crosswalk to see if you’re in the way, you probably shouldn't risk the ticket. Especially near intersections or emergency zones — even stopping for just a couple of minutes can get you a ticket if you’re holding up traffic. The simple rule: if a spot feels dodgy, it’s better to move on.
