While many places in Colombia have great public transportation, it may not always be the most convenient. But thanks to ride-hailing apps like ours, passengers can now easily book rides for now or for later.

With our partners all over major cities, you can be a part of the movement, fulfilling the demand for such services. And to access your potential passengers, you can connect with one of these companies. Consider this your guide to Yango and doing the work to secure your first booking.

What it means to connect to the service via a Yango partner

In Colombia, a driver fulfilling the booking request may not be directly linked to Yango. Instead, they work for a partner fleet, which may have its own unique requirements. Should you decide to go this route, you can also expect the following:

  • Income sharing. They may get a portion of your earnings per completed trip.
  • Option to drive without your own vehicle. You can rent one from a Yango partner, which is a great option for those without enough funds for their own car.
  • Need to comply with additional requirements. Depending on the partner, you may need to complete additional training, submit additional documents, or show up for an interview.

So, if you’re trying to limit initial costs, working with a partner fleet is a great alternative.

How to use the Yango app for trips

Getting started requires completing two registration processes. Learn a little bit more about each process below, after that, you can start booking rides and earning money as a rider.

If you’re ready to connect to Yango passengers and start earning, here is what you do:

  1. Open the Yango Pro app and create your account. This requires providing a verifiable mobile number, along with other requirements. If everything is complete, verification only takes one or two days.
  2. Wait for the rides to come in. To save time, you don’t have to manually approve every potential passenger. We’ll automatically assign you to the best match.
  3. Complete the booking. This includes going to the pick-up point for the passenger and heading to the destination.
  4. Collect the payment. If the passenger chose cash, they should hand it to you before getting off the ride. Otherwise, the app will credit the payment right to your account.
  5. Get assigned a new order. This process repeats for as long as you still have the app active. Especially during peak hours in Colombian cities, one may be assigned to you more quickly than you expect.

Remember, you need a mobile internet connection for orders to come in. We recommend having a backup SIM in case the one you’re using has a weak signal in certain areas.

FAQ from new connected users

Can I be a driver if I don’t have a car?

Yes. Our partners have a fleet of vehicles that you can lease. However, you still need to meet other requirements, like having a driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Is it still profitable to drive for a living if I connect to a Yango partner?

There may be a trade-off to having a smaller investment required, but many drivers still earn well.

How many hours do I need to work per week?

This depends on the specifics of your agreement with the fleet. Please confirm the details with them before signing anything.

Final thoughts

In Colombia, there are many opportunities to earn even within the same industry. For example, we allow you to either be a direct partner or an independent driver through a recognized fleet. If you went with the latter, we hope this guide for Yango riders will help you work your way towards your first booking.
